Recent product-launch successes tell a different story than early influencer failures.
Are online influencers the new barons of industry? That notion was rather laughable a few years ago. Never mind the atrocious #fail of the Frye Festival, then billed as the mecca for all things influencer. There were better examples of worse entrepreneurial efforts. (read more)
What ‘Authenticity’ Actually Looks Like in an Influence-Marketing Collaboration
Believe it or not, it is possible to be authentic in talking about a product. Patrick Janelle and Elliott Clark produced a prime example for cocktail-accessory company Q Mixers. “Authenticity” would win the award for most-overused word in the influencer marketing world these days. The cable network’s new film looks at influencer marketing through an ironically superficial lens. Nick Bilton’s HBO documentary Fake Famous paints quite the definitive indictment of anyone calling themselves an “influencer.” For the film, Bilton and his team took a random person and bought her fake followers, likes and comments to see if brands would think she’s influential.
